DR.ME
STUDIO WORK SHOP
DR.ME is a creative studio based in Manchester, formed by Ryan Doyle and Mark Edwards. The studio workshop began with a talk from Ryan and Mark, the pair studied at university together and told us about their journey in to the industry. At the end of the talk we were invited to ask questions. The questions asked by the group were really useful and enlightened me on the potential to open up my own studio after uni, tips and advice on costing as well as how to work effectively in a collaboration.
For the next part of the briefing we were put in to pairs to collaborate on the briefs set. I was paired with Tristan, Going in to the brief i was really happy to be paired with him, we both share some of the same interests we also have a lot in common so it was no trouble to work with him.
BRIEF 1 - VINYL COVER DESIGN
"we're gonna be releasing a limited edition 12" of a mix Evian Christ made last year called duga-3..
We were discussing artwork concepts and Josh wondered if there was any way you could graphically represent the 10z tapping sound that makes up the duga-3 transmission?
Important to mention right now is that we don't have a lot of time to do this, as this release is intended for the record store day and they have super tight deadlines, so we need this by the end of today?
Dimensions 12" x 12"
As a pair me and Tristan decided to listen to the song and create a mind map of original themes of the song.
- Radio Waves
- Soviet mind control
- Trance
- Russian
- industrial
- Space/sci fi
- Grainy
- Layered
Next we both decided to create thumbnails individually and then present our ideas to each other. From this we picked 2 of our strongest ideas and started to design.
The final outcome developed greatly from the developmental stage. The end vinyl sleeve has a more understated and sleek design. This sleeve represents the smooth and melodic sound of Evian Christ. The repeated pattern begins break up representing the spreading of the Duga-3 drone sound.
