After our crit with the DBA we decided to focus on circles and using them to visually represent the Capital North. Circles round shape lends its self to logo design as it can work at any scale. The circle also has to start and finish and is never ending which is a good way to represent the 4 cities.
With the circular theme in mind we then each experimented with different visual representations.
I developed a logo utilising 4 circles and the connections between them. This logo represents the 4 cities and the connections between them. The formation also creates the letter 'N' for capital north. The next stage of the development was to translate this to a poster format.
Following the same lines as the cog poster i looked at ways of connecting the posters. I used bright statement colours to show each cities culture and vibrancy. These posters worked when displayed together but lost there strength when viewed individually.
The next stage of the development i decided to create a grid using the points of the logo that I had made. As a group we then explored different pathways or patterns we could make with in the grid.
This was Beth's poster layout using the letter 'O' in the slogan as part of the grid
Here are my initial tests, working out different paths and connecting the dots.
I decided that Beths idea of utilising the letter 'O' was one of the strongest visual representations. I then designed my own layout using this theme. I decided to connect the logo to the letter 'O'in north at the top of the poster. I kept with the single colour for each city. and made the 'O' in north the same colour as the respective poster. I think this was our strongest idea and the group decided to pursue this and make some adjustments.
