OUGD603 - Brief 06 - DBA - Crit Feedback

Today we had a crate with the members of DBA. This was a unique opportunity to gain feedback from 5 different industry professionals. We presented of latest poster ideas and explained or concept of the cogs. The concept had mixed reviews and some of the team thought that cogs were redundant technologies and didn't sell the Capital North brand again.

After some reflection and talking as a group we decided that we agreed with the DBA members and the idea was too focussed on the historical aspects of the cities. It was slightly hard news to accept as we had developed the concept a lot and it was something we had over looked.

Me and Beth decided to try and use the them of interlinking and chain reactions, which was the underpinning of the cog concept. We looked in to a variety of different solutions including scientific and mathematic out comes.

We looked in to the periodic table thinking of the structure and different combinations of compounds you can make. This worked for some of the cities but not all.

We then looked in to atoms and particles and all the components that make them up as a visual representation of the four cities.

Beth created this small piece of imagery. When we had the opportunity to speak to Ian Thompson about the progression since the first crib that day, this really stood out to him. He told us not to think to literally about the visual representation and that it could be an image or sign that shows the 2 dots connecting. This was a turning point in the brief and really allowed us to refocus.

One thing that stood out in my mind from speaking to Ian Thompson was that he said the Industrial revolution had passed and the Information revolution was the next big thing. The information revolution is not something that you can see, it runs through fibre optic cables and appears on our screens. This gave me great food for thought in progressing with the brief.
